CubCards is an ongoing project built to make name-finding fun and engaging for individuals, couples, and groups.

How it Works

The raw name information begins as simple rows of data provided by the United States Social Security Administration: (Year, Name, Gender, Count). From there, it is cleaned, organized, and transformed into small, interesting bits. Finally, everything is attached and plugged in for each of the nearly 105,000 unique names in the database. If this sounds a little like the old "draw an owl" meme, it kind of is, but we need to keep this part brief.

Many name meanings start as AI-generated drafts created under strict prompting rules and are checked against third-party sources. If a meaning lacks credibility, or is reported by the community, it is flagged for manual review.

Less common, modern, or newly invented names go through additional checks, but you may still encounter some speculation for names with very few recorded births. Some names may also have no meaning attached yet - though the goal is to eventually have something for every name if possible.

To help keep things accurate, every name page includes a voting and reporting system. If you see a meaning that could be better or an origin that seems off, please let me know! Your contributions help make CubCards better for everyone.
